I am sorry for how forward
I am with my words,
how too far, too soon
I always seem to go.
but see there’s
so much of you
already under my skin,
and sometimes
it can do nothing else
but pour out of me. —Beau Taplin || Too much, Too soon.  (via afadthatlastsforever)

no but here’s the thing. when people complain about a movie adaptation of a novel ruining the story it isn’t that we cannot understand that compromises have to be made in order to adapt books to movies, or that we can’t get that not everything can be included. It’s the fact that when movie studios deliberately choose to leave out essential details in the story - like a person’s skin color, or a choice of words that become a plot point later on in the story - they usually make these changes to comply with the status quo, and they completely erase or invalidate people who related to that aspect of that story. They erase people who related to the story because of that character’s skin tone; or that character’s reasoning. It erases feelings of connection with a story that a person made their own; all in favor of fitting Hollywood’s status quo, or Hollywood’s idea of romance. And the saddest part of movie adaptations that fuck up things is that whenever people in real life reference the story, they won’t talk about the book you love and related to; they will talk about that movie version that erased what you liked and turned it into something else and that’s what pisses us off.

“If you stay, I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I’ll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it’d be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I’d do it. I can lose you like that if I don’t lose you today. I’ll let you go. If you stay.”

Gayle Forman, If I Stay

#sometimes choices make you #I need this speech in my life; no listen; this speech is important #(I may be biased because these two books are my life's stoy #these two books are what 'an imperial affliction' is to hazel grace for me #these two books are so deep in my core there's no way to untangle them) #but this speech is what makes this story essential; this is an 18 year old boy losing the only family he has ever known #and putting the person he loves front and center #this is an 18 year old willing to let go; do you know the kind of maturity that takes? do you know the kind of sacrifice that entails? he is so young; and he is in love #and the test of his love is letting go because he loves her #it's easy to let go of someone who is a weight on your life and brings more sadness than joy; but that's not mia and adam #and mia is losing a family; but so is adam; adam has lost the only family he has ever been part of #and he declares himself equipped to lose mia (to lose even more) just to know she is alive #in the speech he says 'I can't stand the thought of you never growing old; never having children; never playing for the crowds to see you light up like I do when I see you smile' #that's what fuels him; the fact that she has to live; and he knows he can't fix it; but he wants her to live so much he is willing to accept that he won't fix it; that he will be a nuisance #and the terrible terrible thing is that this speech is important #because it isn't empty #he delivers on his promise #and this speech is so important; and the story that follows it is so important #because when you let go you have to be prepared for people to leave; and you are never prepared for that #but he tries to brave through it anyway #THIS SPEECH IS IMPORTANT; IF YOU TAKE NOTHING ELSE FROM THIS RAMBLE; TAKE THAT WITH YOU

I cannot. TGH fandom is truly one of a kind. Shar made a post that says nothing bad about Peeta. She’s didn’t say Katniss doesn’t love Peeta. She didn’t say Katniss didn’t miss Peeta. Nothing along those lines at all. Shar loves Peeta and people are losing it accusing her of hating on Peeta. How? By not thinking he’s the reason for everything? He’s important. Of course he is. But he’s not everything.

Honestly, all her post says is that Katniss didn’t become the Mockingjay because of Peeta and if you look at the text, that’s true. Peeta calls for a ceasefire and Katniss makes the decision to become the Mockingjay in that moment because she realizes they can’t go back. She realizes she wants to fight. She realizes what she can do. She realizes that. So, I guess, if you want to make the argument that she became the Mockingjay because of Peeta, you could. Your argument would be that Peeta called for a ceasefire and then because of him she makes the decision to become the Mockingjay. But nobody is making that argument.

it’s exciting when trailer stuff brings me graphics and gifs and the art is amazing great excellent perfect

but just a general PSA:

  • Katniss Everdeen does not decide to become the Mockingjay because of Peeta Mellark.
  • Katniss Everdeen decides to become the Mockingjay out of her own volition in spite of what this trailer might lead you to believe.

Thank you for your attention

(shar’s tags are also v important on this post)

you are certainly right in the fact that katniss became the mockingjay out of her own volition.

but to say that it had nothing to do with peeta is wrong. it had everything to do with peeta. it had everything to do with prim. it had to do with everything.

idg how you can say ‘just because you want to prop up your ship’ when you completely erased any significance peeta had to make gale her muse?????

like, both of them are extremely important to katniss. but most of all, prim is the main reason of her becoming the mockingjay.

I’m just going to leave this here:

my post above refers to the exact moment she makes the conscious decision to become the mockingjay. The decision to become The Mockingjay is not to rescue Peeta. It’s not because she misses him, or loves him as these movies are painting it judging by the trailer.  Peeta is still playing the Games, and she’s done with playing the Games. She’s done with playing by the Capitol’s rules.

If we’re going to argue this point in her decision making is about Peeta Mellark, it is not about her needing him or loving him. We can argue that she loves Peeta in other places of this book, hell in other places of this series. But The moment she becomes the mockingjay is definitely not because of Peeta. And if it is, it’s because he calls for a ceasefire. Which I have already said in this post

“Sometimes anger isn’t a bad thing, Katniss,” he says evenly. “Sometimes it just means you’re alive.”  (x)
